Well, I guess I haven't blogged on this site in years now....shame on me! And now I have come back and since that time, wow! So much has happened and so much has changed...but I still love to paint, (especially roses), and I have so many more paintings since then.
I wil try to share some here.
Sorry for being gone so very long!

NEW ZEALAND EATHQUAKE
The news of the recent earthquake in New Zealand is a sad tragedy. It is especially scary when your super adventurous son is there, cycling the west coast and you have no idea what his status is.
In an effort to find out, I contacted a few of the hostels in the area that I knew he could be staying in.
I must say, the people of New Zealand are some good folks. Not only did I get a response from the
hostel where he stayed, reassuring me he should be fine, I even got a response from where he did not
stay,by very reassuring, nice people.
Then I finally heard from him. As a mom, I can't even begin to tell people what a waterfall of relief washes
over you when your child (grown child) calls home from a place where a natural disaster occurred, to say,
"hey, I'm o.k.!"
I'm glad beyond words!
I think I'll go and celebrate!

Waiting For My Son To Call
Today my whole life revolves around waiting for my son to call from the other side of the earth. He's on a big adventure to cycle New Zealand. This is something that he has been thinking about doing, and planning and saving for, for some time now.
This is a big deal. He even quit his corporate job to pursue this adventure.
He has a fancy touring bicycle with things to hold all his travel stuff. He has a special tent and sleeping bag and doesn't intend to use any hotels. Just cycle all over New Zealand and camp.
On the evening of January 31, 2011 he left LAX and should be somewhere closer to his destination by now.
He has one connecting flight in Sydney Australia, which is to take him to Wellington, New Zealand.
I have been trying to track his flight but I'm rather confused on how to get the proper info. All I know is, being a mom is a full time job.
It never ends. Not even when your child grows up to be a responsible, adventurous adult.
I wish I could just lay back and wait for his call but I can't. I will be on edge until I hear from him.
I try not to be worried about the current crazy weather in the midwest and also the gigantic cyclone headed for Australia. I am aware that both of these large storms can effect flight schedules.
Right now I am just saying a silent prayer for him to reach his destination safe and sound, and then for all his things to arrive (bicycle, tent and other gear), so that he can pursue his dream cycling adventure and blog all about it.
In the meantime, I wait.
Today I will do some chores around the house and try to focus on other things. I will get those things crocheted that I need to put in my nearly empty new Etsy store. I will practice my guitar a little...I will go for a walk and gets some needed exercise...
And of course my iPhone will be ever present, waiting to ring and for me to hear that familiar voice.
"Hi Mom".

A Visit From My Son
Today is the last day of my sons visit before he heads back to his dads and then flies off to New Zealand.
Why didn't anyone warn me that if you had a kid, they grow up, move away and leave a giant hole in your heart?
For me is especially hard because my son is not only a great kid, (well, a really nice young man), but he also has the same gypsy spirit in him that I had when I was young and is an adventurer, so that means you just never know where he's headed.
In this case, it's New Zealand. At least he's not running off to some dangerous third world country or some where with wild animals. Yea.
When I think of New Zealand I see hobbits, kiwi, and those two funny blokes from "Flight of the Conchords", and lots of mountains.
Still, I'm a mom and I am not good at my only child running off god knows where.
Maybe someday I'll be cool with this, maybe never.
But for today, he's here visiting me in L.A., it's a sunny day and we are catching up on all the talks we haven't had in a while, talking about our plans and dreams and he's raring to go on this fancy bike trip.
Nice to have him around!
Gotta appreciate the moments we have with our children while we have them. I guess I'm one of the lucky ones. We have always had a good relationship and I am happy to say if there is anything I'm proud of in my life, It's having a son like him.
Looking forward to reading his blog covering his grand adventure!
